We are now a little more than half way through #MMMay16 and I am not taking part. Not that I don’t want to, most of what I wear now is made by me, but my wardrobe could use a bit of refreshing. My recent makes over the last year and a half have been for others or for work, so that gives you an idea of the last time I sewed for myself.
A while go, not sure how long, I read an article by James Clear which talked about setting up systems instead of making goals. The idea is simple, instead of making goals just focus on setting up a system and you should get results. There have been many a times where I have made big and grand plans for sewing my own wardrobe and have even posted them on my blog only to embarrassingly fail. No more of that I hope.
So I am going to try a new approach, instead of setting up sewing plans like I have done many times in the past, I’m going to just set aside some time everyday to just sew for myself. I think 30 minutes everyday is a good start. To make my wardrobe building a little easier I plan to just a very limited number of patterns. I plan to use a mix of self drafted patterns, indie patterns, Burda magazine, and big 4 patterns. As of right now I have about 6 patterns and I may add just one more.
I think my first item will be a Fendi inspired skirt using a self drafted pattern. After that I won’t make anymore set plans until after I finish each item. My focus will be just to sew for myself at least 30 minutes everyday. What ever does sewn up I do plan to it here.
Until next time, happy sewing…
